Q: What’s the difference between an estimate and a quote from a contractor/designer?
A: Great question! Here’s a short answer: an estimate is a quick, eyeball, ball-park verbal ‘guesstimate’ based on a similar job job in the past.
A quote, involves taking actually measurements, sitting down with your plans, doing the work and using spreadsheets to add up all the costs.
On our website we offer a ‘Remodel Quick Estimate’ and a ‘Full Consultation’. Here is a more detailed breakdown:
The ‘Remodel Quick Estimate’ is FREE and is a quick 20 minute consultation in your home. We’ll give you a very quick verbal ESTIMATE. This estimate will be based on other recent projects that are similar in design and materials.
The ‘Full Initial Consult’ is $125. It gives you a much more accurate and detailed QUOTE we’ll need to take measurements and draw up a preliminary design. We will ask lots of questions to not only to get to know the client’s project, but also to get to know them personally! Measurements will also be taken so we can come up with a design and preliminary budget. Many details, such as cabinet design, placement and pricing, calculating square footages, faucet spreads, etc. are factored into getting you an accurate budget. We do NOT give a “quick” estimate but rather a fully detailed quote. This quote is very close to the real cost of the entire project.
