Tiled Shower on a Budget…How?

Q: I loved your recent Q&A about fiberglass shower inserts. We’re currently renovating a rental property and would love to tile a shower, but only have the budget for Fiberglass but hate the cheap ‘low brow rental’ look it gives. Is there a way to make a shower look cute even if you can only afford fiberglass?

A: Great question! YES, recently we did this on a job site and found a beautiful solution. The company MAAX bath does an all acrylic panel insert with shower tray.

  • It basically looks like tile with grout, and is easily installed like fiberglass, but with panels. They have loads of tile patterns and offer 3 types of shower units: alcove, corner or tub models.

  • Price-wise, it’s only a few hundred bucks more than the fiberglass option, easy to install and looks a million times better! Here are the different price quotes for this shower done 3 ways—

  1. Tile: $7,000

  2. Fiberglass: $1,200

  3. MAAX Acrylic Tile Insert: $2,000

  • Amazing right? Well, have a look to see the results of a recent install of the Acrylic Shower here & let us know what you think in the comments below!!!
