2023 Top Bathroom Trends for ENC

Bathroom companies, design magazines, and interior designers put out articles and blogs about what’s trending for the year. But, if you look at JUST a few of them, you will see how very different they are. Sure their lists might have 1 or 2 things in common, but the rest seem to be so different. Why is that? Well, it mostly has to do with who is making the list and ‘their’ market and region of the country. Rather than try to sort through 20 or so lists, we thought we would make our own.

So here is a Top 10 list of what’s trending in our neck of the woods, based on what clients want in 2023 in Eastern NC:

#1 SPA-LIKE BATHROOMS—

A spa-style bathroom (or a Spathroom, if you will) is just as it sounds. It is a bathroom designed with comfort and relaxation in mind. Think calming colours, natural materials, and minimalistic décor. The “home spa” is becoming a popular trend in modern bathroom renovations.

Tiles provide the perfect platform to create an impactful design statement in the home, just like a beautiful work of art.

#2 & #3 TEXTURED & PATTERNED TILES—

Whatever tile you choose, the design will add texture and dimension to a room, however, recent tile trends show that more of us are opting for tiles with more irregular, shifting surfaces, rather than those that are smooth and sleek.

The addition of a pattern, be it with a whole floor, complete wall, or simply an eye-catching tiled backsplash, can fill a bathroom with individual and unique flair – ideal when coordinated with other textures and furnishings for an overall inviting look.

#4 BRUSHED NICKEL FINISHES—

Brushed nickel is a timeless finish choice. It always looks stunning and high-end, and pairs especially well with white and blue coastal decor, as well as transitional style.

#5 XL FORMAT TILES—

Large format tiles offer a striking appearance when people enter a room. Their considerable size provides a spacious feel thanks to minimal grout lines. They also bring a decadence that is associated with the most premium of hotels.

There’s plenty of variety in large format porcelain tiles as they are available in multiple effects, such as iconic types of marble, mixing this trend with the natural effect one.

X-arge format tiles are ideal if you want to make a small bathroom feel bigger.

#6 FREESTANDING TUBS IN, GARDEN TUBS OUT—

So while these are a beautiful local trend, it’s more of the younger clients who are specifying this along with the removal of the built-in garden & jacuzzi tubs.

Living in a densely populated area of retirees, freestanding tubs just don’t make sense for most as it gets harder to get in and out of freestanding tubs.

#7 WALK-IN SHOWERS & BUILT-IN SHOWER SEATS—

This trend is driven by the desire for spacious, luxurious, and functional bathroom spaces that offer relaxation and comfort. The inclusion of a bench in a walk-in shower is an absolute game-changer for those who find prolonged standing challenging, such as the elderly or individuals with mobility issues. It transforms a mundane shower into a relaxing experience, ensuring you can enjoy your shower time without discomfort. A walk-in shower with a bench can create a luxurious spa-like ambiance in your bathroom. Relaxing under the soothing water streams while seated on the comfortable bench can be immensely pleasurable and therapeutic. All the while adding value to your home.

#8 DECORATIVE FURNITURE VANITY—

Many homeowners are jumping on the furniture-style vanity trend. Whether it's an open vanity, a repurposed vintage dresser, a" floating" vanity, or a freestanding furniture-style piece, there are some definite benefits to including furniture-style vanity in your design, including:

A stand-alone vanity offers a more modern design statement by providing more dimension and decoration to your bathroom.

A furniture-style vanity is an excellent choice for a smaller bathroom as the legs and space underneath give the room the appearance of being larger and having a more "open" look.

Repurposing a unique vintage piece or having a custom furniture piece made gives you a more personalized space. If you're looking to make a really personal design statement, a furniture-style vanity is a perfect choice.

A furniture-style bathroom vanity or a repurposed vintage dresser typically offers more organized interior storage solutions for everyday essentials.

Furniture-style vanities come in a wide range of styles and shapes. Countertops are available to coordinate with any style. Some manufacturers include the countertop, and sometimes the sink and faucet are included in the vanity price, making a furniture style piece a more affordable choice.

#9 & #10 DOUBLE SINK VANITY & SINGLE WALL SCONCES—

More people are wanting to tear out those awful builder grade wall to wall mirrors. A large mirror is nice, but they tend to look cheap if they're not framed out or beveled, which is why many people are replacing them with nicer looking framed mirrors, which are a little pricer, especially larger ones, hence the smaller double mirrors.

Smaller mirrors allow you to use sconce lighting which is far more attractive than over-the-mirror lighting.
