Interview With a Contractor…
Q: I want to hire someone to do renovations on my home. What are some questions I should ask?
A: Here are a few really good questions that come to mind:
How do you break down payments?
Do you take care of permits?
Can you provide references?
Are you insured?
How long have you been in business?
Do you hire subcontractors?
Have you done a project comparable to mine? What were the biggest challenges?
How soon could my project start?
How long will my project take?
How do you communicate with customers & what method?
What is a typical day on site like?
How do you stay current and on top of trends
These questions are just a starting point for discussion. Don’t hesitate to ask about their services and processes, as this is a BIG decision in choosing a contractor/designer. A good contractor/designer will be very forthcoming about these answers and have many for you as well. Remember, you are also being interviewed, as it is a big decision for them to make sure they pick the right customer to work with as well!
